Ohio woman convinces veteran not to jump off bridge
WKRC) - Courtney Jackson never drives over the Black Street Bridge when she gets off the night shift. Thankfully, Thursday morning, she did.
Jackson was driving over the Hamilton bridge when she saw a man on the bridge yelling.
"His foot was up and he was yelling, and he was like, 'Nobody going to tell me anything,'" said Jackson.
Jackson said she got to the other side of the bridge and turned around.
"Maybe it was just God letting me know like somebody needs help, and I always feel like if you see somebody, help somebody," said Jackson.
When she got back to him, he was sitting on the bridge. She asked him, "'Hey, are you OK?' But, he said, 'No, I'm not OK,' and I said, 'Well, what's going on?'"
Then, she listened to his story.
"I lost my family; I lost my job; I lost my house. He said, 'I don't have anything,'" Jackson said.
The man told her he was a veteran thrown out of homeless shelters=.
"When I asked him if he wanted to go get a cup of coffee, he said, 'Yes, that sounds perfect,' so I was like, 'Come on, you can come get in my car,' and so I didn't just let him go. I still had him," said Jackson.
Jackson called her mom Kiyaa Bowens, who got to the bridge and called 911.
Bowens said the dispatcher, "This gentleman that was trying to jump off the bridge and my daughter stopped him, and they've been sitting out here and no help has arrived, and this man really needs help."
Then, Bowens asked if they could pray.
"I hope that God would place it on his heart to understand that God never puts more on us than what we can bear, and he can come out of this. He really can," Bowens said.
Being back in that same spot was tough.
"I cried all day. Literally all day," said Jackson.
When he hugged her and headed for help at Fort Hamilton Hospital, Jackson was happy she stopped and listened.
"I don't know if I would have done the same thing. I don't know. That man is breathing today at this time because of her selfless act," said Bowens.
As measles cases top 700 in U.S., local doctors urge vaccination
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - More than 700 cases of the measles have been reported across the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control, making it the worst outbreak in 25 years.
So far there have not been any cases in Ohio and doctors at Dayton Children's Hospital hope to keep it that way. "The message is, we should all be vaccinated," said Dr. Sherman J. Alter, Chief of Infectious Disease at Dayton Children's.
Alter said measles had essentially been eliminated, meaning it was not spreading in the country. But he said with the growing trend of skepticism about vaccines, the highly contagious disease is making a comeback, "measles is one of the diseases that we dread because of its contagious ability," he said. Doctor Alter advised parents to look at the risk versus the benefit of vaccines, "measles can have serious consequences," he said, including in some cases, death.
Alter said he is hopeful that Ohio has a high enough "sustained immunization," meaning enough people who have been vaccinated, to prevent an outbreak from happening here.

Little Miracles: Former NICU babies reunite with life-saving nurses, doctors and staff
DAYTON, Ohio (WRGT/WKEF) - Doctors, nurses and staff members at Miami Valley Hospital welcomed back a very special group of patients Saturday. Miami Valley hospital hosted their bi-annual baby reunion, where the hospital staff reconnects premature babies they once nursed back to health.
Kendra Thoby's daughter is now a healthy toddler, but that wasn't always the case.
"She was an emergency C section, I had a placenta abruption. They lost her heart rate and we rushed her back, had an emergency C section and she was perfectly fine after that." said Thoby, "She stayed in the NICU for 56 days."
The staff at the Miami Valley Hospital was there with her every step of the way. Thoby's story is just one of many, with dozens of preemies passing through the hospital since 1975.
"We've been doing the NICU reunion for longer than I've been a nurse here, about 30 years I think." said Registered Nurses Megan Bettag and Danielle Gantner-Cooper.
Even after all these years, the staff is always eager to be reunited with those they helped.
"Those babies are in the hospital for several months, so you build a relationship with the parents between the staff and the family. So this gives us a chance to reconnect to see how well the kids are doing." said Bettag.
Preemies of all ages enjoyed the Star Wars themed reunion that was celebrated with food and smiles.
"They definitely made it feel like home at all times, made you feel like you were part of the their family." said Thoby.

She let her eyes do the talking and kept the rest of her makeup very simple and minimalistic. Filled in brows, well contoured cheeks and some nude lipstick!

I don't know if it is because I received a faulty pair of lenses or what, but one of the lenses was so uncomfortable! I could only wear these lenses for around one hour to take these photos and when I took them off, one of my eyes was very uncomfortable and red! I found this very strange because I have had no problem with all the other Princess Mimi lenses and they are actually the brand I use the most!
